Abstract
Paparan sinar ultraviolet dalam jangka panjang dapat
menyebabkan kerusakan kulit sehingga diperlukan sediaan tabir surya
yang aman dan efektif. Pemanfaatan bahan alam menjadi alternatif
untuk menurunkan risiko iritasi akibat penggunaan bahan sintetis. Kulit
bawang merah (Allium cepa L.) diketahui mengandung senyawa
sediaan emulgel ekstrak etanol kulit bawang merah secara in vitro.
Ekstrak kulit bawang merah diperoleh melalui metode maserasi
menggunakan etanol 96% dan diformulasikan ke dalam sediaan
emulgel dengan variasi konsentrasi HPMC sebesar 1%, 1,5%, 2%, dan
2,5%. Evaluasi mutu fisik sediaan meliputi uji organoleptis,
homogenitas, pH, viskositas, daya sebar, dan daya lekat. Penentuan
nilai SPF dilakukan secara in vitro menggunakan spektrofotometri UV–
Vis berdasarkan metode Mansur. Data hasil pengujian dianalisis secara
statistik untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi konsentrasi HPMC
terhadap parameter yang diamati.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan konsentrasi
HPMC meningkatkan viskositas dan stabilitas sediaan, namun
menurunkan daya sebar dan daya lekat. Seluruh formulasi memenuhi
persyaratan mutu fisik sediaan topikal. Sediaan emulgel menunjukkan
aktivitas tabir surya dengan nilai SPF sebesar 6 yang termasuk dalam
kategori proteksi ekstra. Variasi konsentrasi HPMC berpengaruh
signifikan terhadap sifat fisik sediaan serta menyebabkan penurunan
nilai SPF.
Long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation can cause skin
damage, necessitating the development of safe and effective sunscreen
formulations. The use of natural ingredients represents an alternative
approach to reduce the risk of irritation associated with synthetic
compounds. Shallot (Allium cepa L.) peel is known to contain
flavonoid compounds with the potential to absorb ultraviolet radiation.
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of varying concentrations of
HPMC on the physical characteristics and Sun Protection Factor (SPF)
value of an emulgel containing ethanolic extract of shallot peel using an
in vitro approach.
Shallot peel extract was obtained by maceration using 96%
ethanol and formulated into emulgel preparations with HPMC
concentrations of 1%, 1.5%, 2%, and 2.5%. Physical evaluation
included organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, viscosity,
spreadability, and adhesiveness. SPF values were determined in vitro
using UV–Visible spectrophotometry based on the Mansur method.
Statistical analysis was performed to assess the effect of HPMC
concentration on the evaluated parameters.
The results indicated that increasing HPMC concentration
increased viscosity and formulation stability while decreasing
spreadability and adhesiveness. All formulations met the quality
requirements for topical preparations. The emulgel exhibited sunscreen
activity with an SPF value of 6, categorized as extra protection.
Variations in HPMC concentration significantly affected physical
properties and resulted in a reduction of SPF values.
