Abstract

Effective drug inventory control is an important factor in ensuring the smooth running of pharmaceutical services in hospitals. This study aims to analyze drug inventory in the Pharmacy Installation of Hospital X Surakarta using the ABC, VEN, a combination of ABC VEN methods, and Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) and Reorder Point (ROP) calculations. This is a non-experimental, descriptive study with a retrospective approach. The sample was drug planning data for 2024 from January to December. The ABC analysis results show that group A consists of 31 items (8.73%) with the largest budget absorption, at 74.55% of the total cost. Group B consists of 98 items (27.61%) with absorption of 20.43%, and group C consists of 226 items (63.66%) with absorption of 5.02%. The VEN analysis showed a dominance of Essential (E) category drugs, with 320 items (90.14%) accounting for 94.84% of the budget, while the Non-Essential (N) category only had 35 items (9.86%) accounting for 5.16%, and there were no Vital (V) category items. The ABC–VEN combination analysis showed that the AE group accounted for 72.04% of the budget (7.89%) and was the top priority, followed by BE with 18.18%, while AN and BN accounted for 4.77%, and CE and CN with 63.67% of the items but only 5.02% of the cost. The EOQ and ROP calculations for the AE group showed variations in optimal order quantities and reorder points, with some drugs having high ROP values due to high usage rates, and others having negative values due to excess stock. In conclusion, the application of the ABC, VEN, ABC–VEN combination, and EOQ–ROP methods is effective in helping hospitals prioritize medication control, optimize costs, and reduce the risk of stockouts or overstocking.
