Abstract
Inflammation is a tissue response to irritation, infection or
foreign body which aims to protect the individual. Avocado leaves
(Persea americana Mill.) contain chemical compounds in the form of
flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and alkaloids that have the potential as
anti-inflammatory. This study aims to prove the anti-inflammatory
effect of avocado leaves extract and fraction (Persea americana Mill.
on the soles of white rats (Rattus novergicus) induced by carrageenin.
Avocado leaf extract was prepared by maceration method with
96% ethanol solvent. The extract was then fractionated by liquid
extraction method. Liquid using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water as a
solvent. The results of the avocado leaves fraction were tested for anti
inflammatory activity against edema in white rats (Rattus novergicus)
that had been induced by carrageenin. Then the fraction which had the
best activity as anti-inflammatory was observed. Mouse paws were
statistically analyzed using SPSS.
The anti-inflammatory activity test showed that the extract and
fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water in avocado leaves had
anti-inflammatory activity with DAI percentage values of 80.0402%,
80.0457%, 88.2156%, 67.8651%. The ethyl acetate fraction as the most
active fraction and a group of compounds that have potential as anti
inflammatories are flavonoids, saponin, tannin, and steroid.
