Abstract

Typhoid fever is a disease caused by Salmonella typhi ATCC 11331 and causes disorders of the digestive system. Pangi leaves contain alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, saponins, tannins and terpenoids that are efficacious as antibacterials. The purpose of this study is to determine antibacterial effectiveness, determine the most effective concentration of pangi leaf extract and find out the most effective fraction of pangi leaves as antibacterial Salmonella typhi ATCC 11331. Extracts from pangi leaves were obtained by maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent followed by fractionation using n-hexane solvent, ethyl acetate and water. Antibacterial activity testing using disc diffusion method, with positive control samples (chloramphenicol), negative control (DMSO 0.5%), and variations in extract concentration and pangi leaf fraction (4%, 6%, and 8%). The diameter of the inhibitory zone was analyzed using One Way Anova analysis. The results showed that all samples of pangi leaf extract and fraction had antibacterial activity, with the most effective concentration in extract at 8%, while at fraction is ethyl acetate fraction with a concentration of 8%.
