Abstract

Mental workload is a crucial aspect of human resource management that can affect employee productivity, efficiency, and well-being. If not properly managed, it may lead to stress, fatigue, and even burnout. This study aims to analyze the level of mental workload experienced by laboratory staff at Universitas Setia Budi, identify the contributing factors, and formulate strategic recommendations based on the identified root causes. A quantitative approach was applied using two subjective assessment methods: NASA Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) and Rating Scale Mental Effort (RSME). The instruments were distributed to 18 laboratory staff working across various laboratories. Additional data were obtained through direct observation and interviews related to real working conditions. The results showed that the average mental workload score was 74.4 for NASA-TLX and 74.2 for RSME, both categorized as high. The most dominant indicator contributing to the high mental workload was performance. Based on these findings, a Fishbone Diagram was utilized for root cause analysis, and improvement recommendations were proposed, including rotating work schedules, improving coordination with material suppliers, reviewing work targets, and enhancing laboratory environmental conditions. Beban kerja mental merupakan aspek krusial dalam manajemen sumber daya manusia yang dapat memengaruhi produktivitas, efisiensi, serta kesejahteraan karyawan. Apabila tidak dikelola dengan baik, beban kerja mental dapat menimbulkan stres, kelelahan, hingga burnout. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tingkat beban kerja mental pada laboran Universitas Setia Budi, mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor penyebab tingginya beban kerja mental, serta menyusun usulan perbaikan strategis berdasarkan akar permasalahan yang ditemukan. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan dua metode penilaian subjektif, yaitu NASA-TLX dan Rating Scale Mental Effort (RSME). Instrumen disebarkan kepada 18 responden laboran yang bekerja di berbagai laboratorium. Data pendukung diperoleh dari observasi langsung serta wawancara dengan laboran terkait kondisi kerja aktual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata skor beban kerja mental berdasarkan NASA TLX adalah 74,4 dan RSME adalah 74,2, yang keduanya masuk dalam kategori tinggi. Indikator yang paling dominan memengaruhi tingginya beban kerja mental adalah performansi. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dilakukan analisis menggunakan Fishbone Diagram dan disusun rekomendasi perbaikan seperti pengaturan jadwal kerja rotasi, peningkatan koordinasi pemesanan bahan, evaluasi target kerja, dan perbaikan kondisi lingkungan kerja laboratorium.
