Abstract

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) has various types of active phytochemical compounds lactucin and tryptophan. Lactusin and tryptophan have the ability as a sedative. The purpose of this research is to prove that lettuce can have a sedative effect on white mice. This research was a laboratory experimental type, using 25 white mice (Mus musculus), with variations in administration of 32,5836 mg/kg BW, 56,1672 mg/ kg BW, and 144,2988 mg/ kg BW. Mice were tested on rotarods at 15, 30, 60, 120 minutes. Parameters for the sedative test were increased fall time, miosis in the pupils, weakened grip, and slowed back reflexes. The research data will be processed using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test. The results of the research on the sedative effect of lettuce with variations in administration of 32,5836 mg/kg BW, 56,1672 mg/ kg BW, and 144,2988 mg/ kg BW showed that, after being tested using the ANOVA test and tukey the data showed normal and homogeneous distribution. The difference in concentration between doses affected the sedative effect of mice and had a significant difference (Sig.<0.05).
